The Ram Air intake systems made by Banks Power have been
tested and proven time and again. They
begin as prototypes made by CAD software and are then put through various flow
simulations. Once they pass those tests,
a physical prototype is created and then that prototype must go through various
tests on a flow bench. If it manages to
make it past that stage it will then be put on a vehicle and tested. After those tests are complete, the prototype
must also pass tests against stock intakes as well as many intakes made by
competitors.
Design
and Performance that is Proven
Because of the enclosed cold air housing, the streamlined
design, a huge inlet and a giant lifetime filter that is dome shaped, the Ram
Air intake system made by Banks Power is able to maximize the amount of cooler,
denser air that gets to the engine. This
allows for gains in torque, horsepower and even fuel economy. These intake systems have a flow that is 35%
better than that found in stock systems and they deliver an air density that is
greater to the inlet of the turbo.
Exclusive
to the Aftermarket
The Ram Air intake systems are exclusively aftermarket
products. They have a 5 inch bellows and
can accommodate for the movement of the engine.
This gives more protection to each of the components and as a result
extends the life of the system. In
addition, these systems have been designed in such a way that they will not
cause any sort of error or fault codes.
Filter
Options?
Now Banks Power also offers a choice of filters. You can choose the traditional oiled filter
in red or a dry filter that is black. In
addition, you can get an important additional filtration barrier by adding one
of the pre-filters.
Testing?
We talked about testing already but here is something you
may not know. The uncompromisingly high
standards that Banks sets for testing have actually been awarded a patent for
Engine Performance Evaluation. This came
directly from the United States Patent and Trademark Office.
Summary
Banks measured its own intake systems along with stock and
competitor’s systems and their effect on the density of the air at the inlet
for the turbo compressor. Typically,
these temperatures will be higher than they would at ambient conditions. However, the more cool air that an intake
system can get to the filter while preserving the temperature, the more dense
the air will be. All tests have proven
that the Banks Ram Air intake systems get the cooler, denser air where it needs
to be in order to give you the gains in torque and horsepower that you need.
